Custom RX Vega: Where Are You?

Case of the Missing Vega

After the launch of reference RX Vega cards on August 14th, we expected AIB cards (custom) to start showing up soon after. As it would seem, we are very wrong.  There was released information about the Asus Strix series that would launch in the middle of September but, those days have already passed.  The silent has continued from all other AIB partners for AMD (XFX, MSI, Gigabyte and PowerColor) and no release information has been made public for these AIB custom cards.  We expect that a special branded version of the RX Vega 64 and RX Vega 56 will be coming but, nothing has been released stating when.

So, now for the real question, how long?  Well, we don't know exactly but it appears we are between one or two months out until we actually see an RX Vega card beyond the reference design.  Some AIB partners have expressed the need for chips and units to arrive and because of this, things are still in a holding pattern.  This doesn't bode well for an already complicated and messy release of Vega series graphics cards.  By the looks of things, Asus might be the first to market for a non-reference design and it mirrors the already released Strix series for NVIDIA GPUs.
