Just like Threadripper disrupted when it launched, AMD's second generation Threadripper plans on doing the same. AMD has officially launched their second generation Threadripper on August 13th, 2018 and has doubled their core count at the high-end.

The new chips are built upon the Zen+ architecture with improvements from the first generation and based on 12nm. With slight instructional improvements per clock and higher core clocks, the new Threadrippers will certainly please heavy workload and content creators.

AMD has released four new CPU SKUs for Threadripper second-generation launch ranging from 12, 16, 24, and 32 cores all of which support SMT doubling the total thread count. We have included the specifications for each CPU below.

All new processors are using the same TR4 socket as Threadripper first generation and will support a direct replacement of your current Threadripper processors. This is the one major benefit AMD has promised over its competitor HEDT processors since launch. As with all motherboards, ensure you have the latest bios updates before attempting to install the new Threadripper processor and verify support from the manufacturer website.
